What is SEO Marketing and How Does It Work?

SEO Marketing is often one of the things that is misunderstood in the ecommerce world. Many online marketers struggle for a long time because they either don’t understand search engine optimization, or they understand barely enough to get started.

In order to help you and other marketers in their online marketing, we need to start at the beginning.

What exactly is search engine optimization? How does SEO work? This is the process that helps your website or a certain page on your site rank higher on the search engine of your choice. The biggest difference between SEO and paid advertising is that SEO is primarily focused on gaining organic traffic. This is traffic that you don’t pay for and reach people naturally, or organically.

There are also multiple types of SEO marketing Agency. The two most common are On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO.

The difference between the two is as their names suggest. On-Page SEO is the strategy that you implement on your website directly while Off-Page SEO is your strategy for off your site. So how does it work? Through the years, marketers of all stripes have used what is known as “A/B Testing”. When it comes to online marketing, that means that you want to test two different sites.

Let’s say for this test you see Site A working well but Site B is doing poorly, so you decide to look into them. What you find is that Site B isn’t working the way it should on mobile devices, and sometimes won’t load properly on the desktop version. Site A, in the meantime, is functioning the way it’s supposed to.

On the surface, it looks like Site A would be the clear winner in this round of testing, right?

Well, it’s more complicated than that.

Despite the clear winner in this case, search engines have roughly 200 other things they look for to get you the results you’re looking for in your SEO marketing goals.

So other than just the ease of access for your site for both mobile and desktop, things like the amount and quality of the content you create is important.

Recently as well, Google placed a lot of emphasis on intent. Basically, search engines want to understand what people are looking for. Are the looking to buy something or are they just virtually window shopping?

This means that the quality of your content keywords can’t be something so broad or generic. Your content gets buried on the second page or beyond.

How often you post content is a big thing as well. There is new data available that states that content should be posted 2 to 3 times a week for your SEO marketing strategy to be successful.

Yes, we know we have been harping on content a lot, but the truth is search engine optimization marketing in 2022 requires that there is a lot of quality content on your site.

Here’s something to keep in mind when creating that quality content:

Understand your visitor’s intent – what does your reader want to achieve when they visit?

Create a customer avatar – who is your reader? What do they like and dislike? Why should they come to your site?

Action items – your content should have some kind of call to action. No one wants to go through a piece of content and have nothing to do or say.

Next up is keyword research. The right keyword can rank your site even higher without resorting to paid ads. Your SEO marketing plan needs to include not only the keywords to use for your Off-Page SEO, but also the backlinks you’ll use within your content.

And this should be a constant, vigilant effort. If you stop thinking only the initial linking is enough, you’re not going to get anywhere. Keywords help you rank on Google and create relevant content for your intended audience.

If you stop, you might as well be going backwards.

There are many other aspects to creating the best SEO marketing plan, and we’ll go over some other things in a future post, but these are the basics in order to help you build and audience that knows, likes, and trusts you. You’ll become the authority and more and more people will flock to your site.

Despite all the warnings and technical mumbo jumbo that has been thrown at you. SEO marketing isn’t some giant mountain to climb.
